Mildly drag prepped Chevelle SS. You won’t believe what’s under the hood. Just a warning: my phone doesn’t like focusing during sundown.
Shoe for scale. I’m a size 11. Note the dice valve stem cap.
So many gauges.
Looks almost like it’s set up for NOS?
At the very least these tall aftermarket valve covers mean it’s had some cam work done.
MSD ignition.
It’s at the shop because it was sitting in a barn for like 10 years and the owner wants it running again.

Could it be a rare LS7 454? Yes, they did exist. It was basically what the L88 was to the 427 for the 454.

I have no clue how any of the L engines work other than that it seems to be a trim level for regular engines.

They were basically full blown race engines. The LS7 was a crate motor though, in the 70’s. The L88 went in to some Vettes, and they were 427 Cobra fast.

unless the fender has been replaced then I bet its not a SS454 car, based on how offset the 454 badge is. if it was a 454 car probably a LS5 car, but more than likely a SS 396(or more accurately 402) car.

Well the LS7 wasn’t a factory installed engine, it was a crate engine that I do believe was “rated” at 460hp and marketed for drag racing.

It was supposed to be the L88 replacement. You would have to check the casting numbers and front pad to confirm an LS7 or open it up but internal parts were all over the place in terms of consistency making it hard to tell between a true LS7 and just a built up 454 out of a car or truck.
